BEIJING, China - Audi is presenting a themed vehicle based on its Q3 - the RS Q3 concept - at Auto China 2012 which interprets the character of a compact SUV in a very special way... "systematically dynamic".

"The blue concept" Audi says, "is based on thrilling dynamic performance and its 265kW 2.5 TFSI engine and 25mm lower body explore the potential of the Q3 model series in a new way."

Brushed and polished aluminum trim frames the concept’s single-frame grille and a black grille insert uses honeycomb that's slightly offset to create a three-dimensional effect. The lower grille has a silver quattro signature and the headlights are slightly tinted.

LONG SPOILER

The same combination of black/blue tinted areas is repeated along the body sides, on the trim strips of the doors and sills and on the add-on parts of the wheel arches; matte aluminum trim frames the side windows.

The roof spoiler runs a long way towards the rear, its middle section slightly shortened, the whole painted in the body colour (Ordos Blue - a matte blue with a slight yellow tint).

The rear diffuser insert, which integrates the two large elliptical tail pipes in typical RS fashion, has been shifted far upwards and the rear lights and auxiliary lights in the bumper are tinted in anthracite.

The cabin has a glass sunroof shedding light on the dominant black of the furnishings - roof liner, carpet, mats, leather-upholstered instrument panel - and on large areas of Nappa leather upholstery. Dark blue Alcantara is used as a contrast on the seat covers.

CARBON ENGINE PANELS

The blue contrast is also used in the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic decorative panels which have brilliant-blue luminescent glass fibres woven into it. The steering wheel has large control stalks (more CFRP) framed by aluminum accents. Most of the wheel is covered with black leather but the door trim panels are patched with blue Alcantara.

RS Q3 badges adorn the instrument cluster, seat backs, sill plates and mats.

A layered-carbon panel covers the area around the five-cylinder engine with its red rocker cover; two lateral ventilation screens feed air to the engine and the cylinder numbers are marked on each spark plug cover. An aluminum housing holds the open sports air filter feeding combustibles to take the car from 0-100 in 5.2sec and on to 265km/h with power fed through permanent all-wheel drive.

The 8.5J x 20" alloy rims are wrapped in 255/30 low-profile rubber - not typical for an SUV, not unusual for an RS.
