Back in 2007, Wheels24 reported on Citroen's C4 Cactus debuting at the Frankfurt motor show. Since then it's undergone dramatic changes and a new version was launched at the 2014 International Automobile Festival.
South Africacan look forward to the new C4 Cactus in 2015.
FRUGAL CACTUS
The Cactus measures 4.1m long, 1.4m tall and 1.7m wide with a wheelbase of 2.6m. It's marginally smaller than a C4 hatch but much larger than the C3. The Cactus weighs 965kg, making it 200kg lighter than the C4.
In Europe, the C4 Cactus will be offered with a 60kW 1.0 litre three-cylinder turbo petrol, along with a 80kW e-THP and 67kW eHDI and BlueHDI diesel units - the latter using just 3.1 litres/100km of fuel. Engines will be mated to a six-speed manual or Citroen's Efficient Tronic Gearbox (auto) which uses three buttons instead of a conventional gear selector.
In terms of design, the C4 Cactus features a distinctive front with LEDs and headlights surrounded by “Airbumps” which are there to absorb low speed impacts such as shopping trolleys.
Inside, two digital displays have replaced the traditional dials and dash buttons, with a 17cm touch screen in the centre console controlling major functions such as aircon and infotainment.
'REPAIR COSTS ARE LOWER'
Boot capacity is rated at 358 litres. It features “sofa-style” seats and leather straps instead of conventional door handles. A full-length glass roof will be available as a option.
According to Citroen: "As a result of the efforts made to optimise weight, the consumption of wear parts has been significantly reduced. Thanks to the Airbump, repair costs are also considerably lower."
The Cactus will make its official world premiere at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
