Chrysler’s announced the launch of the Dodge Charger Pursuit exclusively for police use in the US with a powerful 5.7-litre Hemi V8 and all-wheel drive.
The new, aptly named, Dodge Charger Pursuit is ready to be rolled out to police departments across the US, the Detroit News reported.
Available in rear and all-wheel drive configurations, the police cruiser’s Hemi V8 produces 276kW/529Nm. According to the DetNews, it achieved the fastest-yet lap time at the 2012 Michigan State Police’s Vehicle Evalution Test at the state’s Grattan Raceway.
CHARGER FOR ALL WEATHER
The new Charger Pursuit will go up against rivals from General Motors and Ford in a niche segment said to have been blown wide open by Ford’s 2011 decision to discontinue its Crown Victoria, an essential component of the US’s police fleets for years.
Peter Grady, vice-president in charge of fleet operations for Dodge, said: "Adding all-wheel drive to the already popular Dodge Charger Pursuit will broaden the car's appeal to police departments accustomed to rough winters and bad weather.
"With the Charger Pursuit now offering dual capability of both rear and all-wheel-drive, we'll be able to meet the needs of our police fleet customers across the country."
