Chrysler launches 20G MyGIG locally

accreditation
Chrysler is set to revolutionise car infotainment locally with the introduction of their MyGIG multimedia infotainment system.

The MyGIG multimedia head unit is available in two versions, with or without navigation and combines hands-free communication with diffuse music play and stowage functions as well as photo download capability.

Flexible storage of up to 20 gig

An advanced voice dialogue system recognises over 100 000 words and the touch-screen allows intuitive scrolling capability. Music and photos can be uploaded using a USB 2.0 port interface - capacity is a useful 20 gigabytes.

The optional GPS navigation can use either touch-screen or voice-activated destination input. It has both 2-D and 3-D bird's-eye views of roads and multiple route calculation.

Maps and guidance appear on a 6.5-inch thin-film-transistor (TFT) display. The TFT screen is an active-matrix display that allows for viewing from angles up to 180 degrees.

Synergised with the touch screen, an integrated voice dialogue system controls audio, navigation and phone functions and recognises more than 100 000 words. It's allegedly quite proficient in recognising the diverse array of Southern African accents.

Space is additionally reserved on the hard drive for approximately 1 600 songs; which should roughly apportion to over 100 hours of music, while the voice-memo recorder can record up to three minutes of notes.

Multiple input and output source capability

MyGIG can support three simultaneous audio-output sources and two simultaneous video-output sources, ensuring optimal efficiency and application flexibility. Reverse camera display capability can also be integrated on certain vehicle models, enabling dextrous manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Video playback capability consists of a rear-seat DVD player with a 7-inch liquid crystal display (LCD), a battery-powered remote control and two wireless, multi-channel headphones. The system plays DVD, audio, WMA, audio and video CDs and MP3 audio discs.

The UConnect hands free communication system which uses Bluetooth technology to provide wireless communication between the customer's compatible mobile phone and the vehicle?s onboard receiver will be rolled out locally as soon as it becomes available.

MyGIG will be available locally for fitment to new Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles, with the Chrysler Sebring Convertible, Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro being the first vehicles to experience this ground-breaking technology.

The ability to have plenty of safe, car-secure space to download holiday happy snaps - freeing up SD or CF card memory space intermittently - is a very neat feature.

  • MyGIG infotainment system (with or without navigation) retails for R14 900.
