Chevrolet will unveil two very different models at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show in the hope of buiding on its roadster and truck heritage - the futuristic Miray and the Colorado Rally Concept.
While the Miray looks to carve itself a compact roadster niche the Colorado Rally Concept has its sights on the mid-size pick-up market.
The Miray was first unveiled at the Seoul auto show earlier in March 2011. The radical Miray has a distinct jet fighter-inspired design with LED headlights and Chev's new signature daytime running lights.
CARBON-FIBRE WHEELS
The front design is a hat tip to Corvettes of the past. Its wedged body side is made of carbon fibre with Le Mans racer-style scissors doors.
The compact roadster has 20" front wheels and 21" rear wheels made of aluminium carbon-fibre composite.
The Miray’s two front-mounted 15kW electric motors are powered by a 1.6kWh lithium-ion battery accompanied by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine.
The engine is mated to a dual-clutch transmission and the vehicle can be switched between front and rear-wheel drive.
COLORADO RALLY CONCEPT
Chev’s Colorado Rally concept, first revealed at the Buenos Aires international auto show, is the US automaker’s next offering in the mid-sized pick-up segment.
It a double-cab and sits on an 4x4 chassis, rides on 18" wheels with mud terrain tyres and a suspension system that can adjust through 50mm of height.
The front shows Chev's distinctive dual-port grille and has large LED headlights.
The Colorado Rally Concept is powered by a 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine.
Inside the concept features an "air boost" system which enables the cabin to cleared in the event of entering a dust cloud. Chev has taking its off-road capabilities very seriously in that the concept has a hydration pack positioned behind each seat as well as a food solution which can be delivered to occupants through a small tube.
