ZURICH, Switzerland - This is the first official image of the Chevrolet Trax, an all-new (very) small SUV first shown back in 2007 which will join the Chevrolet portfolio and make its debut at the Paris auto show in September 2012.it will then be sold in 140 countries, starting with Mexico at the end of 2012, and one of them possibly South Africa though GMSA says it is still "one of those models under consideration".Susan Docherty, president and MD Chevrolet Europe, said: "The Trax provides Chevrolet with an entry into a growing small SUV segment and delivers the flexibility, great fuel economy and car-like handling that urban explorers require."'FURTHER GROWTH'With room for five people generous cargo space, GM says, the car will meet the needs of customers in more than 140 markets. It will be in European showrooms early in 2013 as a follow-up to the all-new Chevrolet Malibu and the Cruze station wagon later in 2012.Docherty said the new Chevrolet line-up will give Chevrolet exciting opportunities for further growth."The Trax," GM says, "exhibits its SUV toughness and capability in a small package through a muscular exterior design and wide athletic stance. While its contemporary form evolves the global Chevrolet design aesthetic, Trax's interior will be executed to standards usually found in more expensive vehicles."The Trax showcases a new style of small car with - at least in concept - has a two-tone exterior and was completely designed by GM Daewoo in South Korea with a one-litre petrol engine.FOR OZ, TOOIt had its moment of fame for the vehicle mode of the Autobot "character" Mudflap in the 2009 movie 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'.The mini SUV will also be sold in Australia under the Holden badge - certainly a car far removed from the traditional perception of that Oz brand though the small SUV category is the fastest-growing new-vehicle segment in Australia in 2012 with sales up more than 50% January-April compared with the corresponding months in 2011 Holden has no vehicle in the small SUV segment.
