Volkswagen’s Cross Coupé concept is no stranger to the glamorous auto show circuit but the Geneva 2012 version will be singing a different (diesel) tune.
Volkswagen unveiled the original Cross Coupé concept at the 2011 Tokyo auto show with a silver paint finish and powered by a plug-in petrol-battery hybrid system.
The 2012 version which will debut this week at the 2012 Geneva auto show is a shade of polished plum and is, according to VW, fitted with an even more frugal plug-in hybrid drive train.
FIRST FOR VW
This Cross Coupé Concept is powered by a TDI turbodiesel direct injection engine and two electric motors.
Its claimed combined fuel consumption is 1.8 litres/100km which signals CO2 emissions of only 46 g/km. These figures are claimed from an SUV developing 225kW, with a top speed of 220km/h and a hefty kerb weight of 1858kg.
VW has promised that further information about the Cross Coupé will be available when it debuts at the Geneva show on March 6, 2012.
