New Jetta Hybrid

WOLFSBURG, Germany - Volkswagen is taking advance orders for the new Jetta Hybrid in Germany.

The Jetta is one of the most successful VW model series; indeed, it is the best seller in the USA of all German automakers. The new Jetta Hybrid makes its debut as a model that relies on a alliance of a 110kW TSI turbocharged petrol direct-injection engine and a 20kW electric motor.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Combined, VW says, they give impressive performance with a top speed of 210km/h tempered by a fuel consumption of only 4.1 litres/100km, meaning CO2 output of only 95g/km. That's about 20% less fuel than a conventional vehicle of comparable size and power.

At the press of a button, the Jetta Hybrid can cover two kilometres in pure battery mode - a drive source automatically chosen by the car whenever possible. An energy-flow indicator informs the driver of the system’s drive status. Power flows to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The Jetta Hybrid is offered in the two equipment versions Comfortline and Highline. Either can be recognised by specific hybrid features, among them badges with blue backgrounds.

The hybrid design is continued into the cabin with customised accents and decor strips and Hybrid-specific upholstery. Standard gear includes an RCD 510 radio-CD system with digital radio reception that also display the car's energy flow status, multifunction display “Plus”, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering-wheel, automatic aircon and ParkPilot auto parking assistant.

Additional standard features in the Jetta Hybrid Highline include bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, fog lights, 17" alloy rims and a premium multifunctional display.

Unfortunately for interested South African buyers, WV has no plans to bring the Jetta Hybrid to our shores.

The new Jetta Hybrid will be offered from mid-April 2013 with German prices starting at the equivalent of R350 000.
