Lexus shows off IS300 hybrid

The Lexus IS 300h has been launched at the 20130 Geneva auto show with its 2.5-litre full hybrid unit emitting CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km.

The car has the lowest CO2 figures and is fitted with 16” wheels, with the other two models in the line-up emitting 110g/km which means no emissions or road taxes have to be paid on these cars for Europe or South Africa – should it come here.

The car is driven by a 105kW electric motor and a newly developed 2.5 four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine pushing out 133kW. It features a D-4S fuel injection system, dual intelligent variable valve timing and a high-efficiency exhaust-gas recirculation system.

ELECTRIC POWER

The constantly variable auto transmission drives power to the rear wheels and the car has a 0-100km/h time of 8.3 seconds and a 200km/h top speed.

Four drive modes are available: all-electric, with the petrol engine switched off; Eco mode; normal and sport.

The new Lexus IS range will be available in SA from June. The company's spokesperson said: "Although the local IS range will be here from June, including the IS350, the complete line-up is still being finalised. We're not sure about the IS300h as yet - when it will be here or if it will even be included."

The IS300h will go on sale in Europe by July 2013.
