Renault’s cut-price Fluence family sedan is now more aggressively priced with the introduction of an affordable new model.
While the Fluence was initially launched in South Africa in March, 2011, the addition of the Authentique sees the line-up expanding to four models powered by a mix of 1.6 and two-litre petrol engines.
Xavier Gobille, managing director of Renault SA, said: “The Authentique model places even greater emphasis on value, which will not only benefit private buyers, but will also attract fleet customers,” Gobille adds.
SPECCED FOR SPORTS
The Fluence Authentique features the same 1,6-litre engine used in the current Expression and Dynamique models. This four-cylinder unit produces maximum power of 81kW at 6 000 r/min and a peak torque figure of 156 Nm at 4 400 r/min. A five-speed manual transmission is standard.
Renault quotes average fuel consumption of 6.5 litres/100 km and a CO2 emissions rating of 159g/km.
On the safety front, the Authentique, as with all Fluence models, is equipped with ABS with emergency brake assist (EBA) and electronic brake force distribution (EBD). Six airbags are standard along with Isofix child seat mounting points on the outer rear seats.
The Fluence Authentique comes with Renault’s keycard system for keyless access and start, auto-locking doors and a full-sized spare wheel.
Inside the cabin, the entry-level Fluence comes fitted with air conditioning, electric windows all round and satellite steering controls for the audio system.
The easiest ways to tell this Fluence apart from its pricier siblings are the omission of front fog lamps and Carminat TomTom navigation system as well as 15” steel wheels.
The entire Fluence range is sold with a five-year or 150 000km warranty and a five-year or 100 000km service plan. Services are required at 15 000km intervals.
