Germany - It's one of Audi’s longest serving cars in its current line-up but the A5 Coupe still looks as good as when it was launched back in 2007. In that year the car rewrote what sexy coupes should be and eight years later it still manages to capture attention on South Africa's roads.

The next-generation A5 is set to arrive in South Africa in 2017 sporting a host of changes. Chief amongst its tweaks is the naturally-aspirated 4.2-litre V8, powering the RS5, will be replaced by a turbocharged 4.0-litre V6. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but to the true petrol head it can be rather disconcerting.

Good genes

Just like its predecessor, the 2017 A5 is set to yet another stunner in Audi's stable. It will be based on the new A4 – launched locally earlier in 2016 – and will borrow design cues from its stablemate. It terms of dimensions it will be lower and wider than the outgoing model

The new A5 sheds 100kg and will adopt the A4’s suspension setup to improve the handling.

The A5 uses the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform that accommodates a variety of engines. Front-wheel drive will be standard but Audi will offer its Quattro-system as an option.

Internationally, the car will be powered by a range of engines comprising of four- and six-cylinder units. First up are the four-cylinder 1.6 and 2.0-litre TFSI  engines, followed by a 3.0-litre V6 that will most likely power an S5 model.

A new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V6 is capable of 375kW.
