BMW’s second-generation X6 Sport Activity Coupe has arrived in South Africa Feb 2015) sporting tweaked design elements, eight-speed transmission and new technology.

The new X6, based on the X5 platform, has redesigned and narrower headlights, new LEDs and a wider grille. It has more pronounced intakes, muscular wheel arches, new lines along its flanks, redesigned tail lights and spruced-up tail.

New standard kit include 19” alloy rims, leather trim, dual auto aircon, BMW Connected Drive, an eight-speed autobox, xenon headlights and a powered tailgate (behind 580 litres of space or 1525 litres with seats folded).

It’s available in two turbopetrol and two diesel variants:

Petrol:

xDrive35i - 225kW/400Nm three-litre straight-six petrol, 8.5 litres/100km, emissions of 198g/km.
xDrive50i - 330kW/650Nm 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8, 9.7/100km, 225g/km

Diesel options: Same three-litre, six-cylinder diesel
xDrive40d - 230kW/630Nm,  6.2/100km, 163g/km
xDriveM50d - 280kW/740Nm 6.6/100km, 174g/km.

All engines are mated to an eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive.

BMW’s dynamic performance control is offered together with dynamic drive active roll stabilisation as part of the dynamic adaptive suspension package.

According to BMW: “Further enhanced ride comfort can be achieved by air suspension at the rear axle and dynamic damper control, which are included in both the comfort adaptive suspension package (standard on xDrive50i) and adaptive M suspension (standard on M50d and part of the M Sport package for other variants), which also offers sports-oriented suspension.”

Optional extras include adaptive LEDs, auto-tailgate, head-up display  (standard in xDrive50i and M50d), driving assist plus, parking assist, surround view (standard in xDrive50i and M50d) and BMW night vision with dynamic light spot and speed limit Info (standard on the xDrive50i and M50d).

The design pure extravagance package adds metallic accents to both the interior and the exterior. The M Sport package includes, BMW says, "specially selected features that enhance the vehicle’s character."
