BMW South Africa has expanded its diesel line-up by adding a four-cylinder diesel variant to its 5 Series range.
The 520d, with its common-rail fuel injection and VTG turbocharger, is the lowest fuel consuming model in the 5 Series product range.
Developing maximum output of 130 kW combined with peak torque of 350 Nm, the 520d accelaerates in 8.6 seconds to 100km/h and the top speed is 223 km/h.
The average claimed fuel consumption is 5.6 litres/100 kilometres and the CO2 emissions are 149 g/km.
The balance of driving dynamics and fuel consumption is based on the BMW EfficientDynamics strategy.
It is available with a six-speed manual transmission or BMW’s six-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox.
Besides its engine the 520d is pretty much a 5 Series with the same safety package as other derivatives. A host of optional extras are also available.
Pricing for the 520d kicks of at R404 000 for the manual derivative.
