• Active Park Assist available on Focus Sport
• New features
• 12 Focus derivatives offered
Ford has boosted its local Focus range with the South African introduction of parking assistance within an option pack available on Sport models.
VIDEO: Ford Active Park Assist challenge
During parallel parking the system uses the front/rear parking sensors to identify a gap large enough for the car and will automatically begin parking the Focus. Steering is operated automatically (the hard bit) while the driver controls the brake and accelerator.. No clutch is needed during operation - except to swop from first to reverse gear.
Visual and audible notifications alert the driver to the proximity of other cars and objects. According to Ford: "While the steering is all done automatically, the driver remains responsible for safe parking and can interrupt the system by grasping the steering wheel."
The option pack also includes front/rear parking distance sensors, xenons with LEDs, leather seats and four-way power adjustable driving seat.
...AND THE PRICES
The Focus Sport is powered by a two-litre petrol engine capable of 125kW/200Nm mated to a five-speed manual. Fuel consumption is rated at a claimed 6.6 litres/100km with CO2 emissions of 154g/km.
The Focus 2.0 GDi Sport is priced at R303 700; the Sport Option pack costs R13 870
All Ford Focus models are sold with a four-year or 120 000km warranty, five-year corrosion warranty and five-year or 90 000km service plan with service intervals at 20 000km. Ford roadside assistance for three years.
