'Auto' box widens Honda Mobilio's appeal

  • New CVT version
  • Seven-seat MPV
  • 223 – 521 litres of space

Six months after introducing its Mobilio MPV to South Africa Honda has expanded its range with the addition of a third derivative, this one equipped with a continuously variable transmission.

The new model is based on the Mobilio Comfort and has the same features as its manual-gearbox siblings.

According to Honda: "The CVT can be operated like an auto or drivers can opt for a sequential manual mode."

The Mobilio Comfort CVT has the same four-cylinder 1.5-litre, petrol engine as the manual versions. It's capable of 88kW/145Nm, 100km/h in 11.3sec and 140km/h. Fuel consumption is listed as six litres/100km.

Its 60:40 split rear second row of seats has a slide-'n-recline function, the third row (split 50:50) can recline but both rows can be folded and moved forward to increase space. All-seats-in-place cargo volume is 223 litres, 521 litres with the third row folded.

Two front air bags, head restraints, front inertia-reel seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters are standard, along with anti-lock brakes with electronic brake pressure distribution.

Honda Southern Africa operations director Graham Eagle said: "The CVT model adds a string to the Mobilio's bow and should add further momentum to the demand for this attractive, modern and versatile seven-seater. It brings further convenience, even greater efficiency, and real ease of use to the Mobilio line-up."
