Audi SA adds new RS4 model

accreditation
Audi's RS4 is a scorcher of note and, with the addition of an avant version, now even the pets and kids can have their share of the fun.

At first Audi's RS4 sedan captivated with its complete appetite for any tarmac surface, until the drop-top arrived to stylishly blast the competition away. Now Audi SA has buckled under consumer pressure and is making the Avant available in limited numbers.

Powered by the same 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine as its sedan and cabriolet siblings, the avant has 309 kW on tap at 7 800 r/min and 430 Nm of torque at 5 500 r/min.

According to Audi, the RS4 Avant accelerates from 0 - 100 km/h in a blistering 4.9 seconds before hitting a top speed limited electronically to 250 km/h.

Also shared with its siblings is the slick six-speed manual shifter linked to all four wheels via Audi's signature quattro system.

However, the Avant is as capable carrying a load as it is ripping up the track. Its load area can be configured to suit different loads, and the tailgate aperture has a low lip and wide opening to swallow objects up to one metre wide.

Luggage space can be further expanded by dropping the rear seats.

Despite its load carrying capabilities, sporty bits prevail throughout the RS4 Avant.

Aluminium trim is used throughout the cabin, which also has the flat-bottomed steering wheel and clingy bucket seats from the sedan.

From the outside, its ride height is lower by 30 mm over the standard A4 range and the single-frame grille with honeycomb detail, bespoke RS4 wheels, and viciously flared wheel arches, set it apart.

RS4 Avant costs R638 000 and is covered by Audi's five-year/100 000 km Freeway maintenance plan.
