Alfa boosts MiTo range

2011-11-22 10:01

Alfa Romeo has enhanced its little MiTo hatchback with the launch of a new Series 1 range in SA that sees a number of features added to the current range. Alfa also launches a hotter version of its Quadrifoglio Verde model.

The Italian automaker's MultiAir technology, turbocharging and Start/Stop system will be standard across the revised MiTo Series 1 range.

The MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde ups the stakes in the power department with its racy 125kW powerplant. It also benefits from a number of features over and above the Distinctive model, including 17” alloy wheels, satin chrome beading, a rear sports bumper with extractor and micro-brushed aluminium logos bearing the iconic four-leaved clover. A new front grille surround under the badge broadens the lower part of the front.

Inside the cabin, the Quadrifoglio Verde is distinguished by its chrome accents, black fabric trim and Alcantara seats with signature green stitching, and a leather steering wheel.

ACTIVE SUSPENSION

The new flagship Quadrifoglio Verde Sport features Alfa Romeo's active suspension that, through the control of the shock absorbers, reduces vehicle oscillation in all driving conditions and, the automaker says, ensures better safety, comfort and drivability.

The Sport model features three driving modes courtesy of the brand's DNA system: Dynamic (sports driving mode), Normal (driving mode for normal conditions) and All Weather (for driving in slippery or low-traction conditions, such as rain).

The new Quadrifoglio Verde Sport features 18" alloy wheels, red brake calipers, climate control and an eight-speaker audio system.

Standard on the Quadrifoglio Verde Sport and available as an option on the rest of the range, is the Fiat Group’s “Blue&Me” connectivity system. The new model also features a “Blue&Me–TomTom” device that, via a portable colour touch-screen, allows drivers to control navigation and mobile phone functions.

A five-year or 150 000km warranty (three years on paintwork and five years on rust anti-perforation) is offered as standard across the MiTo range as well as a six-year or 90 000km service plan and roadside assistance. Service intervals are 30 000 km.

2012 MiTo RANGE:

100kW 1.4 MiTo Distinctive MultiAir  -  R235 000
125kW 1.4 MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde  -  R262 000
125kW 1.4 MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde Sport  -  R282 000

I just bought my Ford Focus Titanium with 2.0L 125KW NA for R266 000. What would have swayed me to buy the smaller mito at similar pricing?

I would say because the Mito is lighter and nimbler and probably better in the fuel consumption department. Performance is better from a turbo'ed engine. Oh, and the styling....I like the styling of the Focus but the Mito is just pure sexiness.

the Mito just has such a top design! u really cant compare the two tho! its in two completely different classes. but i wud get the Mito (my opinion only), prob coz im a single guy and wud still want to impress the ladies with something pretty

@raath I know someone who always maintained that FORD was short for 'First On Rubbish Dump'. But I am not going to enter into this discussion; I am completely biased on Alfa.

Best of its class! Italian in style and perfomance. Bella machina!

Agreed. Give me a Mito over a Mini or DS3 any day

Hmmm. Why would you get a Mito QV for R282,000 and NOT a Giulietta QV for R345,000? It's not a massive price difference, and I've driven the Giulietta QV and it is bloody fantastic. I'm not so keen on the interior of the Mito. A bit too girly for my liking. But I would have either over any other competitor car any day.

Very beautiful car. Its in Alfa's genes...beauty and performance. They're going back to their roots. I'm planning on getting the 159 V6 Ti. Next to the competitors, it is the Most Beautiful car on the road with the performance to match. Good going, good Growing, Alfa. =)
