5 reasons why the Audi R8 Spyder V10 is absolutely thrilling

Cape Town - I was fortunate to bring home Audi's R8 Spyder V10 and by the end of my drive I was left with one song playing in my head when I went to bed that night ; with a stupid smile on my face, it was iconic rapper Ice Cube's 'Today was a good day'.

While the song is gangster rap (and very explicit), there are three lines which suits the R8 and rings true...

"I gotta go, ‘cause I got me a drop-top
And if I hit the switch, I can make the *** drop
...Today was a good day"

Yes, I am a wife and a mother to a two-year old daughter but there are days when driving a supercar transports you to a sovereign state with 'limitless freedom'.

The R8 Spyder's V10 5.2-litre FSI engine delivers 397kW/540Nm and does the zero to 100km/h sprint in just 3.6 seconds.

If you're concerned about the environment, this car is not for you as CO2 emissions are rated at a whopping 277g/km. Audi claims a combined average fuel consumption of 11.7-litres/100km. Naturally, this car is built for performance and heavy-foot driving so expect your fuel ratings to be significantly highly. But if you can afford this baby, filling the tank shouldn't be a problem.

The R8 is already something special but the Spyder adds open-air driving. The roof drops incredibly fast but since it's already such an ostentatious vehicle, you wouldn't even more attention by dropping the top while in traffic, rather do it before you set off on your journey.

Here are 5 reasons why this car stirs all kinds of emotions.

1. Pure driving pleasure

2. It's such a hot car it makes you smile, stupidly, along with everyone else in traffic giving you the 'thumbs up'.

3. It makes everyone else smile too.

4. The R8 Spyder becomes an instant selfie prop.
