2017 Kia Sportage: 7 new derivatives for SA

  • Seven new Sportage derivatives
  • Local debut for 1.7 CRDI engine
  • Plus variants gain additional features

Johannesburg – Kia South Africa expands its Sportage SUV range with the addition of seven new and enhanced derivatives.

The first addition to the line-up is the entry-level Sportage 2.0 Ignite model, currently only available with a manual transmission, gain a six-speed automatic at, says Kia SA, a “marginal premium over the manual derivative”.

Standard kit includes LED daytime running lights, auto headlights, reverse parking sensors, Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel-mounted controls.

The new Ignite Plus derivatives sees several exterior enhancements, including the addition of fog lights, as well as a wheel upgrade from 16” to 17”. Inside, it gains an electrochromatic rear-view mirror.

The Sportage Ignite Plus can be ordered with a 2.0-litre petrol, capable of 114kW/192Nm and can be coupled with either a six-speed manual or auto.

The Ignite Plus also marks the debut of a 1.7-litre CRDI engine within the Sportage range as an alternative engine option. The new 1.7-litre turbodiesel engine is capable of 85kW/280 and is only available with a six-speed manual.

EXceptional value

At launch, the Sportage 2.0 CRDI EX was the only mid-spec offering in the range, paired to a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine and a six-speed auto. In 2017, Kia enhances its EX variant with the addition of a 2.0-litre petrol. The EX specification adds an electric parking brake, front park distance control, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, a Smart Key with Start/Stop button, leather upholstery, a leather steering wheel and gear knob and power folding side-mirrors.

The range further expands with the addition of two new EX Plus derivatives, available with a choice of 2.0-litre petrol or turbodiesel engine. The variants slot between the existing EX and SX all-wheel drive versions. Building on the standard kit featured in the EX, the new EX Pus gains 19” alloys, power front seats, a rear-view camera and 7” touchscreen with satnav.

The remainder of the Sportage line-up remains unchanged; 2.4 GDI and 2.0 CRDI SX AWD models and 1.6 T-GDI GT Line.
