2004 Renault Kangoo Multix

It is based Renault Kangoo Express minivan, which has been on sale locally since 2001. Wheels24 managing editor John Oxley is on the Kangoo Multix launch on Monday and will give his impressions on Tuesday.

It's price tag is R135 000

In order to provide easy entry to the cabin for passengers, the Kangoo Multix boasts useful sliding rear passenger doors with fixed windows on both sides, ensuring uninhibited rear seat access.

In addition, the Kangoo Multix has a large rear tailgate that opens vertically.

A one-piece folding rear seat is standard, but a 60:40 split version is optionally available for greater adaptability.

Offered in Authentique specification, the long list of standard equipment includes:

  • air-conditioner with pollen filter,
  • power steering,
  • a fully integrated 4x15W radio/CD front-loader with four speakers
  • fingertip remote audio controls,
  • headlamp-on warning buzzer,
  • remote central locking,
  • tinted windows,
  • a heat reflective windscreen,
  • rear window demister,
  • upmarket 'Typhon' cloth upholstery,
  • a multi-function display for the clock, odometer and oil level.

    The options list comprises items such as electrically operated and heated door mirrors, electric front windows, metallic paint and 14-inch alloy wheels as an upgrade on the standard steel wheels with styled covers.

    The safety package benefits from the fitment of a driver's airbag, rear window wash/wiper function, height adjustable front headrests and seatbelts, two adjustable rear headrests and a roof-mounted third brake light.

    Additionally, customers can add a front passenger airbag, front fog lamps and a seating package at the rear comprising an additional centre headrest and three-point centre seatbelt, and ABS brakes.

    This advanced ABS system cuts stopping distances from 100 km/h by four metres, and employs Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)

    The Kangoo Multix is available with a single engine option ? the 1.4-litre petrol-engined version, which shares its technical spec with the Kangoo Express.

    It has a power output of 55 kW at 5?000 r/min, matched to a torque peak of 114 Nm developed at just 2?800 r/min.

    Linked to a five-speed manual gearbox, the Kangoo Multix accelerates from 0-100-km/h in 13.7 seconds with a top speed of 153 km/h.

    The vehicle's maintenance requirements dictate 15 000 km service intervals. A three-year/100 000 km maintenance plan is available as an optional extra.

    As with all Renaults, a three-year/100 000 km warranty is standard, along with a six-year anti-corrosion warranty.
