Not yet a year after its market introduction to South Africa, Volkswagen's sexy Scirocco range is already the subject of running changes.
This change sees VWSA dumping the 147 kW 2.0 TSI engine in favour of a gutsier 155 kW version, similar to that seen in the new Golf GTI. Its 280 Nm of torque is available from 1 700 to 5 200 r/min.
For this Scirocco, too, the engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG transmission.
Sprint times to 100 km/h are quoted at under seven seconds, and top speeds hover around the 240 km/h-mark.
Claimed fuel consumption varies between 7.4 and 7.5 l/100 km.
As with the rest of the range, a five-year/90 000 km service plan, three-year/120 000 km warranty and 12-year anti-corrosion. Service intervals are at 15 000 km.
Prices:
2.0 TSI manual - R325 200
2.0 TSI DSG - R339 700
Of course, if this change to the local line-up is a little too mild for your liking, brace yourself for the 195-kW Scirocco R, pictured below. It - alongside the Golf R - screeches into SA from the third quarter of this year.
