WORLD’S MOST EFFICIENT CAR? The new XL1 could be the most fuel-efficient production car in the world, with a fuel consumption value of 0.9 litres/100 km courtesy of its plug-in hybrid system.
-
HYBRID POWER: A two-cylinder TDI engine (35 kW) works in conjunction with an electric motor (20kW) mated to a s-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG).
-
GREEN-FRIENDLY: The model will certainly make Greenpeace happy as well as eliminate pesky green tax with a C02 emission rating of 21g/km.
-
TOP SPEED OF 160KM/H: The model can accelerate to 100km/h in just 12.7 seconds to a top speed of 160km/h. The two-seater can also cover a distance of up to 50km in electric mode.
-
SPORTS CAR INFLUENCE: Volkswagen has followed sports car design principles for its XL1 with a low weight of 795kg, perfect aerodynamics (Cd 0.189) and a low centre of gravity (1153mm high). This enables the model to cruise on the road at a constant speed of 100km/h using just 6.2kW.

ONE-LITRE CAR TO BE ROLLED OUT: Conceptually, the XL1 represents the third evolutionary stage of Volkswagen’s one-litre car strategy.
