Audi Sport TT Cup: SA's Van der Linde wins again

  • Sheldon van der Linde triumphs at the Nurburgring
  • Two gripping races
  • SA rookie continues to lead overall standings

Nurburgring - Sheldon van der Linde continues to be the measure of all things in the Audi Sport TT Cup. Following a brilliant fighting performance in race one at the Nurburgring, the South African won round two on the tradition-steeped track.

Van der Linde said: "In race one, I took too much of a risk. My rear tires weren’t warm enough yet and I slipped off track. Afterwards, in seventh place, I still extracted the maximum and defended my overall lead."

In race two, everything went according to plan.

The double winner in the Hockenheim season opener started from pole position and, following a fierce but always fair duel with Dennis Marschall, was the first to cross the finish line.

Third win of the season

The 17-year-old rookie said: "I’m very, very happy about my performance in the second race. I fought a good duel with Dennis that I managed to decide in my favour. This victory is extremely important for me. I’d also like to thank my brother Kelvin who supported me tremendously at the Nürburgring."

Van der Linde has now won an amazing three of the four rounds of the season to date.

At the Nurburgring, the Audi Sport TT Cup took place for the first time as part of the supporting program of the 24-hour race. Van der Linde leaves the Eifel as the overall leader with a score of 87 points, which gives him a six-point advantage over Marschall. Next on the calendar will be Audi’s home round at the Norisring. The third in a total of seven rounds will be held from June 24 to 26.
