Yamaha SA: 2013 rider line-up

CAPE TOWN - Following the announcement of Yamaha’s return to the South African National Superbike and Supersport championships, the team has revealed its riders for 2013.

National Superbike rider and magazine editor Robert Portman, sixth in National Superbikes in 2012, will take on the 2013 National Superbike championship on a Yamaha R1.

Portman is a veteran on both 600cc and one-litre bikes, which will prove invaluable to the team as it develops the Yamaha R1 and R6 into race-winning machines.

ROSE AMONG THE THORNS

Portman will be partnered by Dylan White, a new entrant to National Superbikes. He was 10th in the 2012 National Supersport championship after suffering three DNF's and being forced to miss two rounds of the championship through injury.

The team’s hope for 2013 title will lie with Dean Vos, who will ride the multiple-championship winning Yamaha R6 in 2013. He proved his worth in 2012 with fifth in the National Supersport championship, despite two DNF's.

Vos's partner in the 600cc class will be the Janine Mitchell. As one the fastest female riders in South Africa, Mitchell hopes to show a good few of the “manne” that her talent combined with the Yamaha R6 are a combination not to be taking lightly.

Mitchell, daughter of team manager John Mitchell, was 14th at 2012 National Supersport championship, despite missing three rounds of the championship, so a top 10 in 2013 seems in sight for the Johannesburg rider.

The first round of the 2013 National championship will be at Kyalami on February 23.
