Don’t worry about what’s in the night sky – the stars are going to be at ground level this weekend when they light up the Killarney track for the Cape South-Easter international historic meeting.
In addition to regular luminaries such as Sarel van der Merwe and Peter Lindenberg, former British Formula 1 driver Richard Attwood and 1988 Le Mans 24-Hour winner, Holland’s Jan Lammers, will also be racing.

Then there’s Ian Scheckter and his son Jackie as well as SA's only F1 woman driver, Desire Wilson, former South African sports and saloon-car champions Koos Swanepoel and Peter Gough who were team mates with Ford Racing during the golden age of motor racing, are also on the entry list.
Scheckter, who began as a competitive motorcyclist, is best remembered for his F1 experience and his four SA Racing Drivers' titles, as well as his occasional saloon car battles with Super Sarel.
However depending -- to an extent anyway -- on your gender preference, Miz Wilson has an even more impressive track record.
The former South African, who was born in Brakpan but is now resident in the US, has the distinction of being the only lady to win a Formula 1 race of any kind. OK, it was a round of the short-lived British Aurora Series at Brands Hatch rather than a World championship event, but she competed in distinguished company.
If nothing else, it resulted in a grandstand at the circuit being named after her.
FROM SMALL THINGS...
She was in fine form at the wheel of a Cosworth V8 Williams for the SA GP at Kyalami in 1980 and had actually passed Eddie Cheever and Nigel Mansell on a wet track before having to retire after spinning out after completing 52 laps.
Before that, her career began in micro midgets in the old Transvaal, prior to her moving up to Formula Vee. Progressing to Formula Ford, her big opportunity came when she won the national Ford title and the same prestigious Driver to Europe award that had previously launched Jody Scheckter on the road to world recognition and eventually the World title with Ferrari.
Desire has also competed at Le Mans, where she finished seventh in the 1983 race, as well as in various CART and Indy open-wheel events in America.
The ACD Cape South Easter weekend will include the final leg of the Springbok Series (after the first two rounds at Zwartkops and Kyalami), the South African Tourist Trophy and a variety of sprint events for historic sports and saloon cars, single-seaters and motorcycles.
