MIKOLAJKI, Poland - French defending World Rally champion Sebastien Ogier, driving a Volkswagen Polo R, was leading the field after the first day of the 2014 Rally of Poland.
Ogier won two of the day's three specials in the Mikolajki region of northern Poland to finish almost three seconds ahead of his team mate Andreas Mikkelsen. British Citroen DS3 driver Kris Meeke was third.
Juho Hanninen (Hyundai i20) won the second special and was fourth overnight.
MISJUDGED
Local hero Robert Kubica, a former Formula 1 driver now driving a Ford Fiesta, lost 30 seconds on Stage 2 after leaving the road. His car was not damaged.
Kubica said: "I was braking over a crest, the car unloaded and we went straight into the ditch and rolled."
There are 21 stages through Friday, Saturday and Sunday over (June 27-29 2014).
