Loeb makes 2013 WRC return

2012-12-07 09:23

BACK IN THE MIX: Nine times World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb has agreed to compete for Citroen in four events of the 2013 season.

ALAN BALDWIN

LONDON, England - World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb will compete for Citroen in four of the 13 events on the 2013 calendar.

"We'll start the season in Monte Carlo and we'll compete in Sweden because it's a rally I would love to win in normal racing conditions," the nine-time champion said in a team statement, "and I couldn't begin to think about missing the Rallye de France."

Citroen - a France-based automaker - did not say what the fourth rally would be.

TAKING A BACK SEAT

The team announced in September that Loeb would not defend his title in 2013. Finland's Mikko Hirvonen has taken over as the team's lead driver and will compete in all 13 races.

Spaniard Dani Sordo will enter at least 11 rallies and will be nominated to score points in the Manufacturers' championship when Loeb is not competing.

Khaleed al-Qassimi of the United Arab Emirates will do eight world championship rallies for the Abu Dhabi-sponsored team, starting in Sweden.
