Leeroy Poulter, who in 2011 switched from national circuit racing to National rallying, has been named SA Guild of Motoring Journalists' Motor Sportsman of the Year for 2011.
Poulter burst into the top-flight Super S2000 class of the National Rally championship behind the wheel of a factory Toyota Auris and quickly established himself as the fastest special-stage driver, according to the driver seedings scoring system.
Poulter went on to win two championship rounds and ended the 2011 season as the top-seeded Super S2000 driver.
BEHIND THE SCENES
The Colin Watling Award for special achievement in motorsport by someone other than a competitor was awarded to the Kyalami Marshals’ Association, a small band of volunteers who support motorsport in the most unglamorous way.
The marshals also assist at other circuits and at road and off-road events.
The awards were presented at a function in Johannesburg on February 28, 2012.
