IndyCar to bear Wheldon name
IndyCar's new 2012 chassis will bear the name of British driver Dan Wheldon who was killed in a crash in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Gianpaolo Dallara, whose Italian firm makes the chassis used in the
US-based open wheel series, announced that the car would be dedicated to Wheldon.
Wheldon was testing the car when he was killed, the automaker said.
'HE DESERVES IT...'
Dallara said: "Dan lives in the memory of everybody at Dallara. He has been a true champion, not only because of his many victories but above everything else because he has been a true and warm man to all the people he encountered"
"We will honour his memory for the years to come by dedicating the Dallara IndyCar 2012 in his name. He deserves that."
Flags flew at half-mast over the firm's Parma headquarters.
