This weekend, for round three of the Absa Off-Road Championship that takes place at Sun City, Pilanesberg, South Africa, a privately entered turbo-powered Subaru Forester Xel 2,5-litre turbo will be attempting to collect points in its maiden outing.
When entries for the national event closed late last week the figure stood at 99 with 54 Special Vehicles and 45 Production Vehicles entered for what is one of the most popular events on the calendar.
Of the 99 entries 81 will be competing in the championship and 18 in the Northern Regions series. Four crews will be competing in both championships. Car number D16 could well be the one to watch this weekend, driven by Pietermaritzburg Subaru dealer Howard Christie and navigated by Jeremy Fall.
The response from the off road fraternity has been incredible, said event organiser Adri Roets. "We were expecting a large entry, but this is a pleasant surprise."
He added that with the size of the entry the organisers were expecting a huge crowd over the weekend. The Sun City 400 has always been a spectator friendly event, and this year is no different.
