Mazda is set to make a racing comeback this weekend when its Mazda3 MPS joins the starting line-up in Round 10 of the national production car championship.
The race-prepared Mazda3 MPSs will feature in Class T, which caters for turbocharged cars under 200kW.
Piloting the cars will be Heinz Bose in the MFC Motor Finance Corporation (MFC) and Etienne Prinsloo in the Bizhub colours.
The race cars have apparently produced promising results in their pre-season test sessions, although the biggest test awaits them at Kyalami.
"We are looking forward to this weekend's event," team principal Hennie Prinsloo said. "The team has done a great job in getting the cars ready and everyone has worked really hard on the development of the cars.
"We no doubt still have a long road ahead of us. As with any new team we are likely to experience some teething problems along the way however we are confident in the package we have and look forward to taking on the opposition this weekend," concluded Prinsloo.
The Mazda3 MPS is powered by a 2.3 -litre DISI Turbo engine, which produces 190kW at 5 500 r/min and maximum torque of 380 Nm at 3 000 r/min.
The sporty hatch features a limited slip differential and boasts a six-speed manual transmission.
Class T is proving to be one of the most hotly-contested classed in the production car series with seven manufacturers fielding 17 cars.
