Fastest SA track to host champs

The country’s top two-wheel speed merchants will do battle around South Africa’s fastest race track on Saturday June 29, 2013.

It will be round nine and ten of the 2013 South African Motorcycle Racing championships at the East London Grand Prix circuit.  The venue should test racers to the full in both the Superbike and 600 Supersport categories.

East London boasts the country’s two fastest racing corners - the infamous Potters’ Pass and Rifle Range sweeps. Top superbike riders were negotiating Rifle Range at over 280km/h in the past, before braking heavily to tackle the Cocobana hairpin corner, just 230m further. Such diversity demands bravery and skill from racers.

CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS

Clint Seller tops the 2013 SA Superbike title chase on his Kawasaki.  Behind him, Chris Leeson (Motorrad BMW) and Nicholas Grobler (Kawasaki) are fighting for second, with Ryan Ottens (Motorrad BMW) within range of fourth.

Other riders who could surprise at East London include Heinrich Rheeder (BMW), Dylan White (Yamaha), Ryan van Aswegen (Kawasaki), Stephen Steenkamp (Kawasaki) and Robert Portman (Yamaha).

600 SUPERSPORT

Youngster Cam Petersen (MV Agusta) leads the 600 Supersport championship chase, with his closest adversaries being veteran Lance Isaacs (Kawasaki), Brent Harran (MV Agusta) and Nicholas Kershaw (Kawasaki).  Fighting in the midfield are Dean Vos (Yamaha), Brandan Goode (Kawasaki), Sharl Wasserfall (Kawasaki) and Nicole van Aswegen (Daytona).
