Paris - Two-time Dakar Rally winner Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar will race for Toyota in the 2017 edition in the brand new two-wheel drive Hilux Evo bakkie, the Japanese automaker said on Thursday.

The 2011 and 2015 winner of the main car category came second in 2016 with Toyota and with the same co-pilot who is scheduled for the upcoming race, Matthieu Baumel.

Al-Attiyah is a highly experienced rally driver and is hoping to join the world rally circuit with Toyota next season as they make a return to that discipline in 2017.
