LA RIOJA, Argentina - Defending motorcycle champion Cyril Despres took the overall lead in the 2013 Dakar after placing second in Stage 10, a 636km ride that included a 357km timed section from Cordoba to La Rioja, Argentina.

On January 14 2013, the KTM rider made a charge from 24 minutes behind the then race leader to win Stage 9, his first stage victory of 2013.

On January 15 he continued to push but finished in second place on Stage 10. Joan Barreda Bort took stage honours on his Husqvarna, finishing 1min15 ahead of Despres.

TEAM MATE AHEAD

Despres, seeking his fifth Dakar title, leads overnight leader and team mate Ruben Faria by 1min37 in the overall standings.

The race will finish on January 20 2013.
