Shock end to German MotoGP

Sachsenring, Germany - Honda's Casey Stoner was on pole for the 2012 German MotoGP but team mate Dani Pedrosa swept right on by at the start and the pair disappeared into the distance.

Their ding-dong batle went on, nose-to-tail, with Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) holding a distant third and followed by Andrea Dovizioso on (Tech 3 Yamaha). Lorenzo wasn't even in camera view as the two Hondas reached the end of the pits straight.

CLOSE MOVE

Cal Crutchlow (Tech 3 Yamaha) was running fifith on yet another Yamaha with nine laps to go while the rain that dogged Saturday's qualifying stayed away. Then Crutchlow went way wide and into the gravel on lap 5 - as the two leaders started to go past the back-markers - and fell way back to 11th.

Then Stoner, having bided his time for almost all the race, almost got by Pedrosa with three laps to go.  Two laps to go and the two were still just metres apart and into the last lap and Dani Pedrosa set the fastest lap of the race with Stoner right up his tail pipes.

They plunged down the last hill and Stoner lost it - and fell, sliding in a shower of sparks - as Pedrosa took the flag, perhaps because light rain had started to fall. What a race! And Lorenzo came home second.

Stoner got up quickly but was too slow to restart successfully, leaving Pedrosa to enjoy his third consecutive German MotoGP win.
