Armoured Kate, 11, wows Ministox

LONDON, England - Young Catherine Harris is only 11 but already she's a motor-racing star. She drives an armoured Mini in a discipline called Ministox, an on-tar stock-car formula for 10 to 15-year-olds and is already winning trophies.

She's just scored her first heat and race victories in National Ministox.

The racing is based on Formula 1 and 2 stock cars and is a contact sport using modified Mini's with a welded steel chassis and heavy armour - engines are restricted to 1000cc

'EXCELLENT FEEDBACK'

Elder brother Tom, a multiple stock-car champion, helps maintain his sister’s Mini and decided to equip her Mini with sponsored Falken tyres.

He said: “For kids, first and foremost we want a safe tyre from a known brand,' he said. "So we chose one that has good grip and provides the kids with excellent feedback as they learn car control.”
The support has already got Catherine thinking about tyres: “Before, I never really thought about them but now I have learned they make a big difference to how the car goes and stops.”
