The behemoth Q7's cute little brother Q5 was uncovered at JIMS and makes its way to SA next year.
The Q5 range, which is aimed directly at BMW's X3, will be offered in South Africa from early 2009.
Audi says local models will be lavishly appointed and equipment options should include an eight-speaker infotainment system with an MP3/iPod interface and Bang and Olufsen hardware, MMI navigation with a 40 gig hard drive and DVD drive and intelligent speech control.
Regarding its practicality, Q5's load space, which also features a two-part load bay floor, is 540 litres however this could be expanded to 1 560 litres.
Although all Q5 derivatives will be fitted with Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, they definitely will not have great off-roading prospects and are best reserved for suburban exploits.
Q5 is offered with three engines, a solitary petrol 2.0-litre TFSI and 2.0- and 3.0-litre TDI models. A 3.2-litre V6 is expected to be added to the range early in 2009.
