Hailed by Alfa as the "sportiest mini" to tackle the premium segment, the MiTo takes centre stage at JIMS ahead of its May 2009 local debut.
With styling borrowed heavily from the 8C Competizione, the hatchback is a feast to behold.
Owners will also be allowed access to a range of specification packages, including a sports package, and a seemingly endless list of options ranging from the Blue&Me infotainment system developed with Microsoft and a panoramic roof.
MiTo in SA will also be packed with a range of electronic gadgetry including different vehicle modes based on driving style and Alfa's Q2 Electronic system that mimics a self-locking differential when required.
The MiTo was launched in Europe with a 114-kW 1.4 turbo petrol engine and an 88-kW 1.6 JTDM turbodiesel engine, both matched with a six-speed manual gearbox. Engines comply with future Euro 5 emissions regulations.
At a later stage, the Alfa Romeo MiTo engine range will be extended to include higher power ratings and the introduction of other new features such as the MultiAir electronically-controlled valve lift system and the DDCT (double clutch) automatic transmission.
