Spielberg, Austria - Nico Rosberg led Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in the first practice for the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix.

Both drivers had some problems but dominated the session. Rosberg topped Hamilton by .357 seconds on the Red Bull Ring.

Rosberg has won both races since the circuit returned to Austria, and tops Formula 1 with five wins, holding a 24-point lead over defending champion Hamilton.

Losing control

The Mercedes drivers spun off during the session, and Jean Grosjean of Haas lost control while trying to avoid Hamilton.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen broke his suspension and front wing while running wide and hitting a yellow kerb.
