F1: McLaren signs Japan's Matsushita as test driver

Paris, France - Japan's Nobuharu Matsushita has been signed by McLaren-Honda on Saturday( Feb 20) as a test and development driver ahead of the new Formula 1 season, the team announced.

The 22-year-old will focus on simulator support and engineering work in support of race drivers, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso, as well as reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne.

Matsushita, who was All-Japan Formula 3 champion in 2014 before graduating to GP2 for 2015, said: "I am ecstatic to be joining the McLaren-Honda F1 team as a test and development driver.

"To step into the world of Formula 1 fulfils a boyhood dream, and is a huge step forward in my career."
