2010 CHAMPION: Sebastian Vettel earns a cool R29m bonus in 2010

Sebastian Vettel's championship bonus tallies a cool €3m, according to German newspaper Bild.

It emerged after Red Bull won the 2010 Constructors' championship that the team was paying its entire staff - more than 500 people - a healthy monetary bonus. Reports said the bonus was about €12 000 (R11 1791) each but Bild claims that only basic employees were receiving that; senior engineers all getting close to R500 000.

The newspaper said the bonuses were costing Red Bull millions, "and champion Vettel is getting three of them".

Bild said Red Bull Racing's total championship windfall under the prize-money clauses of the Concorde Agreement is a whopping €73m (R695m), payable in four instalments.

Team owner Dietrich Mateschitz told Die Welt that F1 team budgets currently ranged from "probably €100m (R952m) and €500m (R4.7bn)".

"Our budget is roughly in the lower mid-range," the billionaire said.
