Vettel to give up win to Webber

Sebastian Vettel has hinted he might be willing to give up a race victory to help his team perform a perfect score in 2011.

Red Bull has already secured the Constructors' and Drivers' World championships but team mate Mark Webber is fourth behind Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button with three races to run. Webber hasn't won this season; Vettel has done so 10 times so Webber might need some help to reduce the 13-point gap to second place.

"With three races left, we hope for the best results possible for ourselves but also for the team," Vettel told AFP

Team boss Christian Horner added: "Webber has had a very strong year and we want to get him second in the drivers' championship. That's our remaining target for the rest of the year - to get him a race win and finish the season in style."

Asked if that might involve him giving up a win so that Webber could reach the top step of the podium, Vettel answered: "Yeah, definitely."

What a "Team-effort". Was that not ellegal? Michael was to blame!!! So you can help your teammate to come second but not first in the championship. Seems to me RedBull can do what the like and have an article published and it's okay, makes you think.

Don't worry, I think Mark Webber is way to proud to race like that. I would be truly surprised if he would take such a victory.

@ Mandy: Decisions like this aren't made willy nilly on the spur of the moment. This is F1, not oval track racing. A decision will be made by all involved, way before the race. However I did forget one important fact, as I said a decision will be made by the TEAM so it could be decided that it's in the best interest of Red Bull F1 to do so. But if it is solely up to MW, I will stand by my previous comment.

How nauseatingly smug! Race each other and stop talking crap. If Webber is a real racer, which I think he is, he'll not take kindly to this nonsense. So now you're a champion and you're back in town to give away candy and points to the kids...Mxim!

Ya Vettel is a pompas ass. I understand the reason of winning the championship but doing that to come second is ludicrous.
