Seeing Volkswagen in Formula 1 in 2015 might be a possibility according to Sport Bild, a German weekly magazine.
A meeting between Sauber team boss, Peter Sauber and VW’s chairman Martin Winterkom at the 2012 Geneva auto show might have sparked some speculation about an F1 arrangement but Monisha Kaltenborn denied there was more to the story.
VW AND SAUBER
However, Sport Bild still reports that VW is planning to enter F1 with Sauber, which won a GP with BMW during their 2006-2009 collaboration.
The report said the International Automobile Federation (IAF) had been informed of the VW-Sauber plans.
The magazine also said that Sauber might just be “a stepping stone” into F1 for VW as the brand is keen to get involved in F1 chassis design at its Porsche Motorsport Centre in Weissach, Germany.
