Rosberg happy with Mercedes

Silverstone - Nico Rosberg said he was delighted with the progress of his Mercedes team after finishing third in Sunday's British Grand Prix.

In spite of a dismal result in Valencia two weeks ago, the 25-year-old German was back with the frontrunners throughout the weekend at the Silverstone circuit.

A confident drive and reliable pace throughout the race saw him finish third behind Red Bull driver Australian Mark Webber and Briton Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.

Rosberg admitted that there was no way to catch Webber or Hamilton, but praised his team and said they deserved every point they got.

"Mark and Lewis were very fast in front, no way to keep up, but we have made such a great step forward from Valencia," he said.

"And we're on the podium, nearly out of merit apart from Sebastian's puncture I guess - and we can make more because things like the F-duct aren't working properly on our car."

Rosberg conceded that his car had been damaged during an overtaking manoeuvre, but that it was still strong enough to fend off threats from Mclaren driver Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.

"I am sure it did get damaged, but it was still good enough to hold Jenson behind which is great." he said.

"Jenson was close, but a bit more easy to keep him behind than Alonso - he is not able to follow as close so having the Ferrari behind would have been a bit more difficult."

Meanwhile his Mercedes team-mate fellow German and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher did not have such a positive race and wound up ninth.

The 42-year-old admitted he was partly to blame for his result and is hoping for a much stronger performance at the German Grand Prix in two weeks time.

"Again a race which I am not really happy about today," said Schumacher. "Seeing Nico on the podium is good for the team but my race was obviously less rewarding.

"I was in traffic for most of the race and did not really have a clear track. After the pit stop where I had to push really hard to make it in front of Rubens, I unfortunately made a mistake out of a slow corner which put me off the track.

"That cost me a lot of time plus two positions and that was it for today.

"We now look towards Hockenheim where we obviously will do everything to perform in the best possible way."
