Carlos Sainz, son of former double World Rally champion Carlos Sainz, is on track for a future in Formula 1.
The youngster has pursued a career in open-wheelers and, now that Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne have been promoted to F1, he is the current top driver in Red Bull's junior driver programme.
Another link to F1 for the rookie is his sponsorship deal with Cepsa, a Spanish oil company that is also Toro Rosso's main supporter.
SPONSOR LINK TO F1
Sainz jnr landed his sponsorship following his participation in the British and Euroseries F3 categories in 2012.
Alfonso Escamez, Cepsa chairman: said: "I hope everything goes well and Carlos will be in that world (F1) one day."
Escamez added that the deal did not guarantee Sainz jnr a future in f1: "The sponsors have no say on the teams or the drivers. We can try to influence, to give our opinion, but we are not (able to decide) on that side.
"We hope that it does happen, but it will not necessarily."
