SPIELBERG, Austria - Daniel Ricciardo reckons his Canadian GP victory will give Red Bull an extra lift for its home race in Austria.
Ricciardo said: "The win gave us more motivation - not that we didn't have it - but it's given us that extra little bit. It's encouraged everybody to want more of it.
"I saw the team on the pits wall when I crossed the line and it was as if it was the first win in F1."
VETTEL WILL FIGHT BACK
Until the Canadian GP, the title-chasing Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had won every one of 2014's races.
Mercedes started them all from pole and will again be favourite in Austria, home of the team's non-executive chairman and retired triple champion Niki Lauda. But Ricciardo showed in the Canadian GP that Red Bull, winner of four titles in a row, is again a force to be reckoned with.
Ricciardo is 19 points ahead of team mate Sebastian Vettel in the championship after seven races but he was sure Vettel would fight back on Sunday (June 22 2014.)
Ricciardo said: "He showed a lot of respect and good sportsmanship after the Canadian GP. I think it's just going to make him more motivated so I can't rest now, I can't get too complacent... got to keep pushing and hope it works well for both of us."
Ricciardo said he had done simulator work to learn the Austrian race track though he had driven on it in 2013 on a film day with Toro Rosso. "I've been around the track a few times. It's a short lap and we won't take too long to get used to it. I think qualifying is going to be really tight.
"I don't think I have an advantage here, I think by Saturday we'll all be up to speed."
