Red Bull goes 1-2 in Japan

FERNANDO WHO?: After claiming victory at the Japanese GP, Sebastian Vettel is now tied for second place in the championship.

Red Bull converted its dominant Sunday morning late qualifying form to a 1-2 finish at the 2010 Japanese Formula 1 GP.

Sebatian Vettel cruised to victory, 0.9sec ahead of team mate (and championship leader) Mark Webber. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso took the bottom step on the podium.

Intense rain prevented practice on Saturday (requiring race organisers to move grid qualifying to the morning of the race) but the sun shone brightly for Sunday's race.

Behind the podium-finishers were the McLarens of current World champion Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton with Michael Schumacher  sixth.

The Japanese F1 faithful who had endured a wretched Saturday waiting in vain for qualifying to start were ecstatic to see local driver Kamui Kobayashi finish seventh in his BMW Sauber.

In terms of the championship, the Japanese GP results leave Red Bull’s Mark Weber on top with 220 points, 14 clear of Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel – who are tied on 206.
