Perez 'ready' for Ferrari seat

Sergio Perez is hoping to be "ready" for a Ferrari race seat at the end of 2011.

The Mexican rookie, who so impressed with his one-stopper in Melbourne two weeks ago, had a less stirring outing in Malaysia when a rival's loose part caused him to retire.

He's at Sauber this year with the backing not only of Mexican giant Telmex but also Ferrari as he heads the famous Italian marque's driver development academy.

Ferrari supplies engines, transmissions and kers to British-based Sauber.

Felipe Massa had a poor season with Ferrari in 2010 and, despite the Brazilian having a contract through 2012, it has been suggested that he must perform exceptionally through 2011 to keep the drive.

Asked if he coveted the seat, 21-year-old Perez told BBC One TV: "If I was to say no I would be lying. For sure it's a dream for me to drive for them one day.

"(On 2012) I think it's too early to say.  I think there's a long way to go for me, lots to learn and a lot of work ahead of me.  I hope I can be ready for something like this by the end of this year."
