Party time for Seb and Kinky Kylie

2011-10-24 07:51

BERLIN, Germany - Double Formula 1 World champion Sebastian Vettel partied with 30 000 fans in his home town, Heppenheim in south-west Germany, as the star toured the streets in his Red Bull car nicknamed Kinky Kylie.

The 24-year-old was in buoyant mood and turned a hand on the decks after jumping into the DJ pit at a huge home-coming party to celebrate his success in the World Drivers' championships for the second year in a row.

10 VICTORIES

Even the German's favourite football team - Eintracht Frankfurt - got in on the act for the weekend's celebrations when they sent Vettel a team football shirt with No.1 one on the back under VETTEL.

Vettel has dominated the 2011 F1 season with 10 victories from 16 races to finish top of the championship table with 349 points - 127 points clear of second-placed team mate Jenson Button.

The German star worked tirelessly to sign autographs as the planned celebrations ran well over time on Saturday night. Fans had waited patiently since early in the morning to see their hero drive up.

'I'M OVERWHELMED!'

"It will take a bit of time before all this sinks in," admitted Vettel, who was presented with a mountain bike on behalf of the town and a key box from a local carpenter. The most unusual gift came when a state official presented him with personalised licence plates - HEL VETTEL - 'HEL' short for Held, meaning "hero" in German.

Vettel drove his car - Kinky Kylie - in to Heppenheim's town square, which is less than a kilometre from his family home.

"It's incredible to see so many people here," he said. "I'm overwhelmed. It could not be better."
