Nurburgring F1 future cloudy

NO FUTURE: Eveline Lemke was adamant about the Nurburgring's F1 future.

Formula 1 has no future at the Nurburgring, Eveline Lemke, told the German Press Agency.

Lemke, the Rhineland-Palatinate state deputy prime minister, said it was not their long-term aim to keep F1 racing.

"We want other formats and we want to embark on a future-orientated path. It is not a concept for the future and definitely not a solution for the Nurburgring," she said.

BIG DEFICIT

The German GP was expected to run up a $19.5-million deficit and Lemke said that future state funding would be reduced.

Organisers had trouble financing an F1 race and the German GP alternates between Nurburgring and Hockenheim, with the latter to host the 2012 race.

F1 chief excecutive Bernie Ecclestone said he would be ready to make financial concessions and could imagine a calendar without a German race but added "its the last thing we want".
